Begin before expiration
Work backward from the printed expiration date and allow time for training, testing, the new bond, county recording, and state review. Keep address and contact information current.
A pending renewal does not authorize acts after the existing term expires. Stop notarizing during any lapse.

Complete the renewal course and examination through the official portal and save current completion proof. Time the completion so the 90-day certificate remains valid through filing.

New bond, oath, and application
Obtain a new $10,000 bond for the new term, execute the oath, and file and record both with the proper county clerk. Submit the renewal through the official system with current proof and fees.

Electronic registration renewal
Electronic-notary registration is coterminous with the traditional commission and must be renewed with it. If the underlying appointment expires or is suspended, electronic authority is affected.
